about

These pieces were written and recorded in 2019 and 2020. Each of them explores a certain polyrhythm, from two against three up to five against four. Some of these pieces draw inspiration from the solitude of wintry landscapes, and others look forward to springtime waterfalls. Dance of Avoidance was inspired by a NASA article about Naiad and Thalassa, two tiny moons of Neptune that are locked in an avoidant pattern. Undeserving is a musical lament written after the murder of George Floyd.

This album accompanies my instructional book, Polyrhythms for Pianists, which is available in both hardcopy and digital formats here: pianopronto.com/composers-community/stacy-fahrion/stacy-fahrion-polyrhythms-for-pianists/
